Art can be a gateway to parts of our existence that are hard to access in our everyday lives. With Lotus Pods, artist David Ram invites the audience to become curious and be intertwined with a mysterious playful world. As you step inside the pods, you are welcomed into another dimension.
The title Lotus Pods refers to when Nobel Peace Prize laureate Carlos Filipe Ximenes quoted another laureate Rabindranath Tagore (literature 1913) in his Nobel lecture: ”Youth, as a Lotus flower, flourishes just once in life”. Ximenes added “Do not let it wither on the way.”
Becoming curious again is a way to stay young and Lotus Pods invites you to do just this. But, it requires courage to step outside your comfort zone. The artwork offers a bodily experience that most adults only know from their childhood. An experience of excitement, temporary disorientation and maybe the tension of experiencing something unknown.
Austrian artist and designer David Ram works in painting, sculpture and installations. His background in 3D design has led him to explore the possibilities of 3D printing for his sculptures. Ram has been working with kinetic sculptures for many years and with Lotus Pods since 2023.
He is a member of the artist collective Roter Keil. A selection of his solo and group exhibitions include Metamorphosis catastrophalis (2023), Krisen & Brüche (2023), Friedhof der Utopien (2023) and Ludere cum Horrore (2024).
“Light art in urban environments acts as a conduit and puts art into the center of people’s everyday lives.”
