The artwork “Ljuset” is a filmed memorial candle that is lit and slowly burns down, inspiring us to remember those that came before us and their achievements.

The artist is inspired by the mission set out in Alfred Nobel’s will ‘reward the discoveries that have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind’.

The candle becomes a beacon to this purpose. The burning flame acts as an activator of memory, the light becomes a substitute for the person or people you want to remember or give extra consideration to. The light is projected large on a wall in the Old Town, visible to all who pass by.

Project manager from Stockholm Konst is Stefan Otto.
