Between 1901 and 2024 the Nobel Prize was awarded to more than 1000 individuals. Within these individual achievements, artist Aleksandra Stratimirović chose to highlight a laureate who received the prize for her fight for children’s rights; Malala Yousafzai.
Yousafzai was only 17 years old when she shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Kailash Satyarthi in 2014 “for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education”.
In the artwork Hope, a quote from Yousafzai’s Nobel lecture shines a reminder and an inspiration for the world to rethink and make a change:
“Let this be the last time that a child loses life in war”
The artist sees these words as a powerful message from everyone’s heart to anyone’s heart, reflecting what most people believe is right and true.
- Aleksandra Stratimirović
Aleksandra Stratimirović is a Stockholm based artist with an extensive knowledge and understanding of lighting technologies. She creates temporary and permanent site-specific works in public spaces such as hospitals, schools and neighborhoods in Sweden and abroad. In addition to her work as a visual artist, Stratimirović is the cofounder of the Lighting Guerrilla Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia and artistic director of the Skopje Light Art District in North Macedonia.
