moonGARDEN revisits the childhood phenomenon of shadowplay and the magic with which stories can be told using something as simple as the shadows of our hands. The stories being shared in these massive scale shadow theaters are interpretations of the literary worlds of Jon Fosse, the 2023 Nobel Prize laureate in literature.
Jon Fosse is one of our time’s most performed contemporary playwrights who was awarded the literature prize for “his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable”. In addition to plays, Fosse has written novels, poems, and children’s literature. His work is often minimalist and explores the eternal questions of life.
moonGARDEN consists of three self-inflating spheres from two to seven meters in diameter. The cut-outs are made by laser and assembled on rotating platforms. The sequence based on a single stream of light, produces an enchanting animation reminiscent of the lamps that made shadows dance on our childhood walls.
Since its inauguration at the 2012 Luminothérapie event in Montreal, moonGARDEN has traveled the world, visiting the Fête des Lumières in Lyon, along with Brussels, Jerusalem, Moscow, Washington, Mexico City, Medellin, Houston and Beijing. The show has been seen by over 1 million people and offers an invitation into the world of dreams.
